LIAM LAWSONS RISING FORMULA: A look into the Red Bull Rookie rising career.

Liam Lawson is a 23 year old rookie that was picked up by Red Bull Racing to race in their second car for the 2025 season. That would shortly come to an end.

Once a little boy with a dream of being a motorsport driver, he decided to pursue that dream, making it a reality. Liam Lawson began his car racing career in 2015 at Formula First, where he was very successful, and after the start, he was improving yearly.

Liam Lawson entered Formula 3 in 2017 where he was triumphant, winning three races, standing on the podium in Malaysia.

In 2021, Liam Lawson stepped into Formula 2, with a beautiful win in Bahrain to begin his career. In Formula 2, he had DNF’s and many podium positions.

Stepping into Liam Lawsons Formula 1 career, he begins as the reserve driver for Visa Cash App RB, the Racing Bulls, fulfilling his dream of becoming a big time race car driver.

At the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo crashed during a practice, unfortunately for him, breaking his hand. Ricciardo steps out of that Grand Prix to heal, meaning Lawson steps in for him.

Lawson does not make it past Q1 at this GP, having him qualify 20th, as he did this recent 2025 Shanghai Grand Prix. Though as viewed during the race, Lawson is strong. Liam Lawson passes 7 people, from starting the race at the pitlane, making him from 20th to 13th in his very first Formula 1 debut.

Lawson then had the opportunity to Race at the Circuit of America in 2024, after Red Bull decided to bump Ricciardo to reserve to review Lawson for the upcoming season. Qualifying 15th, Liam Lawson performed well to score points, going P9.

After his Grand Prix in America, Red Bull decided that blue and red would look good on Lawson. He knocked Perez off Red Bull and took the second seat.

In his debut as a Red Bull rookie, at the Australian Grand Prix Liam Lawson made 47 laps in before he crashed, with the lack of wet tires, it showed. On turn two he slipped out and ran into the wall.

Red Bull decided to keep Lawson out on the track while others went in and switched to wet tires, given it began to pour rain. Liam explained, “We took a chance, hoping that at least half of the track would stay dry,”

Liam DNF’d in Australia, being understood for the most part of his situation. Given the race conditions, many thought that this wasn’t abnormal. Many other rookies crashed this race prone to road conditions.

The next Grand Prix this 2025 season was in Shanghai China. Lawson stepped into the weekend with a greater mindset, ready to perform better.

Liam Lawson qualified P20 in China, beginning the race at the back of the pit lane, he made momentum to pass others and bump up to P16 (Making him P12 after the Ferrari and Pierre Gasly disqualifications and Alonso’s DNF). The tough race wasn’t what Lawson was looking for, and neither was Red Bull.

Lawson explained, “It’s just we tried something with the set-up to learn something today. It was quite a big step and unfortunately it just didn’t work.”

Although Redbull took the approach in China to pull out a performance that would not only be better, but to learn more about Lawson's racing, the team shortly began questioning whether or his spot on Redbull should stay.

Liam Lawsons Red Bull continued to struggle in China.

Quickly Red Bull came to the conclusion that Yuki Tsunoda, Racing Bulls top driver would replace Liam Lawson in the upcoming race in Japan. Lawson will be on Racing Bulls for the rest of 2025 season.

Liam Lawson has expressed his thoughts and feelings on the matter, explaining in a recent instagram post saying, “Being a @redbullracing driver has been my dream since I was a kid, it’s what I’ve worked towards my whole life. It’s tough, but I'm grateful for everything that’s brought me to this point. To every one of you who’s stood by me, thank you for all the support it means the world”

After this saying, “Thank you @visacashapprb for the warm welcome, I’m excited and ready to go to work at one of my favourite places”

Liam Lawson will continue his career in 2025 with Visa Cash App Racing Bulls. With Lawson, in blue and white, only time can tell what will happen for the rest of the 2025 season.
